How to Upgrade or Extend a BricsCAD Single User Licence

Quick answer: “Upgrading” BricsCAD actually covers three different situations: moving to a new version, moving to a new licence level, and extending a subscription. A version upgrade happens automatically if you have active Maintenance. A level upgrade needs a few manual steps to reactivate your key. A subscription extension is automatic once purchased. All three need an internet connection, and none of them require a new licence key, your existing one stays valid throughout.

Upgrading to a New BricsCAD Version

If your licence has an active Maintenance plan, or you’ve bought a one-off version upgrade, BricsCAD updates itself to the new version automatically. Just install and open the new version, there’s nothing to reactivate manually.

Upgrading Your Licence Level

Moving to a different licence level (for example, from Pro to BIM) isn’t automatic, since it changes what your key unlocks rather than just which version you’re running. Once you’ve purchased the upgrade:

  1. Launch BricsCAD.
  2. Run the LICENSEMANAGER command to open the Bricsys License Manager dialog.
  3. Click Manage License, then Modify. Your existing key is already pre-filled in the License Key field.
  4. Click OK to reactivate the licence at its new level.

Extending Your Subscription

Once you’ve purchased a subscription extension, BricsCAD updates the expiration date automatically after your current period ends. There’s nothing to activate manually here either.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a new licence key when I upgrade? No. Whether you’re upgrading version or level, your existing key remains valid; BricsCAD upgrades no longer generate new keys.

What’s the difference between a version upgrade and a level upgrade? A version upgrade (for example V25 to V26) happens automatically with active Maintenance. A level upgrade (for example Pro to BIM) changes what the licence unlocks and needs the manual reactivation steps above.

Do I need to do anything manually to extend my subscription? No. Once you’ve purchased the extension, BricsCAD updates the expiration date on its own the next time you launch it after the original period ends.

Does any of this work offline? No. Upgrading a version, upgrading a level, and extending a subscription all require an internet connection.
